Mary Ellen Marnholtz serves as community relations coordinator for the Wausau School District. She began her work in the field of school public relations in 1983 with the Garland Independent School District in Garland, Texas. While there, she served as Coordinator of Communications for a district of approximately 38,000 students. She and her family returned to the Midwest in 1991 when she took over the communications role in Wausau. Marnholtz oversees all community relations and community engagement processes, as well as communications planning for the district of 8,800 students. She is a Past-President of the Wisconsin School Public Relations Association, and serves a mentor and presenter at both the state and national levels. Her goal is to inspire all members of the school community to understand their role as ambassadors for their schools, their students, and for the institution of public education.

Marnholtz has a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University where she was named to Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. She is a two-time WSPRA President’s Award recipient; has received three WSPRA’s Lighthouse Awards for best of show Spectrum entries, is a Lifetime Member of the Texas PTA; a graduate of Leadership Garland; a charter Board member of the Child Care Connection, a four-county childcare resource and referral agency; a member of the Marketing Committee for the United Way of Marathon County; a member of the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce Workforce Development Board; the Marathon County LIFE Report Steering Committee; the Marathon County Pandemic Influenza Communications Committee; a charter member of Partners in Innovation; a former church youth director and member of her church’s Board of Christian Education. Marnholtz is currently writing her first novel. She and her husband Allen and son William live in the country just outside Wausau, Wisconsin.
