Ways to Get Involved in WSPRA
Abraham Lincoln in his Gettysburg Address declared that our nation is a "government of the people, by the people, for the people….” Just as that concept is true for our nation, it is also true for the Wisconsin School Public Relations Association. WSPRA is an organization that is intended to be “for and by its members.” Since its inception, WSPRA has always depended on the knowledge and skills of its members for success. As a volunteer organization, WSPRA presents networking as one of its major strengths. For those reasons, WSPRA asks members to become involved in as many activities as they are able. Check out the list below to see if there are any opportunities that match your skills and interests: Writing
If you have skills in the area of writing, WSPRA is always looking for content for its WSPRAgram, Practical PR articles in Wisconsin Association of School Board’s Wisconsin School News, and web site. If you would like to submit and article to be considered for one of these publication sites, please send information about the topic to Executive Director Mabel Schumacher. Speaking If you enjoy presenting to groups, WSPRA often has requests for various presentations in districts. Let our Executive Director know of your interest in presenting. WSPRA can provide opportunities for you to co-present with other WSPRA presenters and be trained in the current presentations. Serving on the Board of Directors Each year, the WSPRA nomination committee looks for individuals willing to serve on the Board of Directors. Positions that usually become open are those of Director. Elected directors serve a two-year term. One director is appointed by the president and serves a one-year term. Serving on the WSPRA Board is a professionally invigorating experience. Board members support each other and share knowledge and expertise willingly. Distinguished Chapter Activities Each year WSPRA reports the activities of its members to the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) as part of its Distinguished Chapter Award application. If you do any of the following, please report the activity to our Executive Director. She will need documentation of the activity (a handout, a program, a course syllabus, etc.) to include in the application: Presentations at local, state, and national conferences Articles written for newspapers, magazines, or educational publications Assistance given to other districts regarding PR issues or crisis communication Assistance given to local organizations (United Way, Girl Scouts, Rotary, etc.)
We welcome your participation in WSPRA.
