Dealing with Complaints

There are two important actions involved in dealing with complaints: gathering pertinent information and responding.

Gathering Information involves

  • knowing district procedures for handling complaints
  • conducting appropriate research
  • inviting the input of others
  • making personal contact
  • record keeping

Responding involves

  • responding in a timely fashion
  • being factual and friendly
  • not using educational jargon
  • not promising to "solve the problem"
