Involving the Public - Do's

When beginning the process of involving the public, districts need to remember a few basic premises:

• Begin with what you already do; use natural opportunities such as conferences, open houses, back-to-school events
• Communicate early in a process and continue the communication regularly
• Go to the places where parents are
• Make it convenient for parents to participate
• Go beyond the people who normally volunteer and recruit new people to involve
