Jane Elmer is beginning her 15th year as the executive director of the Wisconsin Retired Educators' Association (WREA). When you talk to Jane, she will tell you there are two things she likes most about her work with WREA: the people and the projects! And that just about covers it all. Her work with WREA allows for a lot of variety-and no two days are the same.

A graduate of St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN, Jane was a high school speech and English teacher. She also served two terms as a school board member in the River Valley School System. Before coming to WREA, other work experiences included human service administration, public relations and fund-raising. Her job at WREA puts all of her "hats under one roof."

Jane recently completed her role as the president of the National Professional Organization for Retired Educator Executives. Because WREA is affiliated with the National Retired Teachers Association, AARP's Educator Division, she continues to be involved on several national committees. In addition, she represents WREA by participating in several organizations for retirees at the state level.

Janes hails from the village of Plain, about 35 miles west of Madison, where she and her family have lived for over 30 years. Both Jane and her husband Bob started their careers as teachers. They have two adult children who are high school teachers in the same school in Southern California-and their son-in-law is also a teacher. Education seems to run in the family!
