Mabel G. Schumacher, Ph.D., serves as WSPRA's Executive Director.

Schumacher has served in many capacities since joining the WSPRA Board-secretary, vice president, president elect, and president. She continues to advocate for school public relations and believes that WSPRA plays a critical role in our schools today.

Schumacher earned Bachelor of Education and Master's degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in special education and reading education. She served as a classroom teacher of cognitively disabled and learning disabled students, Assistant Director and Director of the Racine County Handicapped Children's Education Program, Coordinator of Special Education in Wauwatosa, WI, and Supervisor of Special Education programs in Sheboygan, WI.

Schumacher completed her Ph.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in curriculum and instruction. She served as director of instruction in the School District of Fort Atkinson before retiring in 2001 after 33 years in education with experience in both special education administration and regular education administration.

Schumacher has twice been awarded WSPRA's Past President awards and has been named WSPRA Honorary Lifetime Member. She is active in her community and was recently awarded Volunteer of the Year status by the Walworth County chapter of the Wisconsin Retired Educators' Association. She is active in volunteer work with her Sheltie therapy dog, Tammy, and has written a number of children's books using Tammy as the focal figure.  Schumacher lives with her husband, Vernon, in Fort Atkinson.
